Christmas Books 2017

Usually, I wait until a month before Christmas to do a post on something festive related that I have worked on. But as I’ve designed a trio of books this year, I want to shamelessly share it earlier. I art directed two beautiful and glittery titles perfect for snuggling into a cosy sofa on a wintry cold day:

Christmas at Mistletoe Cottage by Lucy Daniels. Illustrated by the lovely Sara Mulvanny. This is the second book in the Hope Meadows series that follows on from Summer at Hope Meadows.

Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa De La Cruz. Gorgeous illustration by Robyn Neild. This is a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice with the main characters genders swapped over.

On the contrary, if you’d rather read something hauntingly spooky…I have art directed the cover for Ghosts of the Christmas Past. Illustrated by the brilliant Darren Hopes. This is a collection of chilling short stories from authors such as Neil Gaiman.

…And there is only 52 days left to Christmas!

The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night Featured in The Bookseller

The Bookseller has highlighted The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night as part of their Cover design round-up: November 2017. The book cover was illustrated and complete with hand lettering by the very talented Aitch. Art direction by me.

Link to the article here:

The finished book is lovely – printed directly onto the fine linen, clear foil and individual short story headers also beautifully drawn by Aitch.

The Bibles List – The 2017 Update

Originally, managing the whole of the Bibles list was for maternity cover but this has now become an additional part of my role. Below are some examples of the Bibles that I have worked on this year.

NIV Large Print Single-Column Deluxe Reference Bible: Teal Soft-tone

Special finishes include a textured soft tone material with debossed floral details.

Lovely matching alternating white and purple head and tail bands and purple ribbons.

Inside there are colour coordinated and patterned endpapers. A beautiful Pantone purple here!

NIV Tan Single-Column Journalling Bible

This trendy Bible is printed on lovely textured paper with a matching dusky blue Pantone dyed elastic.

Similar blue Pantone for the simple endpapers.

Deep blue head and tail bands and ribbons complete the overall look.
